Decodable readers are designed to allow students to read every word in a passage. These digraph passages were written with the Orton Gillingham approach in mind and explicitly incorporate only sounds that have been previously taught. You can grab a copy of the scope and sequence that these readers follow here.

Decodable passages are a perfect way to instill confidence in readers as they are able to 'decode' every word in the story.

Why is this such a great tool for teachers?

This resource is designed to be a lesson planning tool as well as a great reading resource for your students.

Planning OG, or any phonics lessons, can be arduous. Planning visual drills, auditory drills, words to read, words to spell, dictation sentences, all while keeping known phonograms and red flag words in mind... it's a lot.

This resource includes teacher planning pages which will make your lesson planning a breeze!

Each reader is accompanied by a ‘teacher resource’ page which includes the spelling rule for each new phonogram, a list of known phonograms and red flag words present in the story, a list of target words in the story, word options for words to spell and examples of dictation sentences which can be plugged directly into your lesson plans.

There is also a visual aid – a color-coded copy of the story, to aid in your lesson planning. You can take words and sounds directly from the story and add them to your lesson plan. The known phonograms and red flag words are taken from my OG word list and Scope and Sequence, which is a very good companion to my OG resources.

Not every OG scope and sequence is the same, which is both a blessing and a curse when teaching OG, but my scope and sequence was designed for a school and from the viewpoint of a classroom educator as opposed to an individual tutor.
