Celebrate Earth Day with the Most Beautiful Craft

Updated: Apr 12

Earth Day is the perfect time to celebrate the beauty of our planet and teach children the importance of taking care of our environment. What better way to do that than by incorporating crafts into your lesson plans? Earth Day crafts can teach children about recycling and conservation and serve as a fun and engaging activity for both teachers and homeschool parents. In this post, we'll explore a unique Earth Day craft using India ink, photo paper, and watercolor paint to create a beautiful painting with the most vibrant colors.

This craft is a little messy, but it's so worth it!

The materials you'll need for this craft might seem a little expensive, but the ink and watercolors will last forever!

You'll need:

Step one: have your students follow your directed drawing. Pencil won't show up very well on glossy photo paper, but should be visible enough.

  • a circle

  • heart in the middle

  • pieces to resemble the continents around the edges.

Step two: trace the lines with india ink. Could this be done with a Sharpie? Absolutely! Does india ink make the whole thing pop? Also yes!

IMPORTANT! You want to let the black ink dry completely before moving on to the next step.

Step three: paint with undiluted liquid watercolor paint. The colors from Colorations are SO vibrant, but really any liquid watercolor paint will do!

And that's it! Voila!

The glossy paper and the super-pigmented paint are a gorgeous combination. We got SO many compliments on these because they are just stunning!

This craft can be adapted to different age groups and skill levels. Younger children may need help applying the ink, while older children may want to explore more complex color combinations. It's a great way to get children experimenting with art and learning about the environment at the same time.
